Hello Everyone,
I'm kinda new to the world of gaming rig making, having just stepped up from an aging desktop. I would appreciate any inputs on how it will perform and if I can make it any better. Here's what I'm thinking of:

CPU - Intel I7 3770k

Memory - Corsair 8 GB

GPU - MSI Twin Frozr R7850 2GD5/OC 2GB Version

Cooler - Thermaltake Pro 2

MOBO Gigabyte Z77-UD3H

I would appreciate any of your thoughts.

Cheers,

You have way too much CPU and not enough GPU.

An i7 performs the same as an i5 in games. Its a waste of money. on this budget, you should get the cheapest i5 you can. Get an i5 4430, and an h87 motherboard.

Put ALL the leftover money into a better GPU.

Gaming is 85% gPU and 15% cPU.

I guess you're right, I went a bit over board with the CPU. I'm now thinking an GeForce GTX 770 even though I have to splurge a bit. From what I've read, it seems like a good buy. Do you have any other suggestions for a card?

Its all depends on your budget.

For just the GPU? or for the whole system?

Just the GPU, I'm reasonably happy with the rest of the system.

Get a gtx770.

If you are mainly gaming, change the CPU to an i5 not an i7.

Also get an air cooler, not that closed loop water cooler. It will cool just as well and make WAY less noise.

Yes, I would be mainly gaming and an I5 would be the better choice. I don't video/picture edit.
I kinda want the water cooler just so I can say my PC's so damn sexy, it needs to be cooled with cool sounding liquid. :p  I use a headset anyway.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, get tan i5 for sure in that case. I personally cannot stand those coolers and the fad of closed loop coolers as a whole, but if you buy into the 'Oh my PC is liquid cooled' (even though it really isn't) fad, then go for it. An air cooler will perform better though.

What PSU/case will you be using?
September 30, 2013 8:53:49 AM

I'll be using a Antec Three Hundred Two as my case and a CoolerMaster I500 500W PSU

Although I'm not too sure on the PSU. A friend suggested it to me, said it was superb.

I would change the PSU to something 600w from Antec, XFX, Corsair, Seasonic for sure.

Coolermaster are known for their TERRIBLE PSUS.

Have a look at XFX. AMAZING quality and value for money. Their PSUs are actually re-branded Seasonic.

Lol, looks like I'm gonna have to have a chat with my friend. Ill look into it. Wow, building a good rig is a TON of work. I know it's gonna be worth it though.

Coolermaster has a past of FAKING 80+ certifications, LYING about wattage, making VERY poor quality units and labeling them at top tier, using no or very poor quality protection circuits, and more.

Some say that they are coming around. I wouldn't trust them. They make great cases. PSUs, NOPE.

Stick with Antec, XFX, Corsair, Seasonic. Specifically XFX for amazing quality and price.

Hmm. . . I'll have a look at XFX, I guess 600W ought to be enough. A bullet dodged there. . .

YEs, 600w will be good. IF you plan to overclock, and have a gtx770, you should go with 650w. THe xf650 is a great unit.
September 30, 2013 9:10:05 AM

Ehh, I had a really BAD experience with overclocking. I'm planning on holding out on overclocking until i like NEED it.

I understand. And honestly you won't ever NEED it. Its a hobby. Not really for major performance increase at all.
