at my sound card its says high definition audio device. now my question is what this means?its the sound card from my laptop btw and it has only 2 outputs one for the headphones and one for the mic. so i want to know what audio system can hold?2.1 or 5.1

The mic would actually be an input rather than an output. Laptops generally aren't made for surround sound, as that requires more audio jacks. A full 7.1 card for instance would have 6 jacks. With only one output jack (marked headphones, it can also connect speakers) it supports a simple stereo output (2.0). A 2.1 set may work also.
