fps drops in minecraft

Hey guys,
I have an i3 3220 @3.3Ghz and a gtx 650 ti
I can play minecraft at to 90-100 fps, but sometimes it drops to around 40-50 fps
Why is it happening and is it bad?

Could be loading new chunks, not a bad thing, Could even be something in the background on your PC. Just get the optifine mod and play with some settings, this will significantly boost your fps and help stop and dips.
