I want to get one card at the moment. I want to game at ultra settings, i have 3 asus 1920x1080 monitors. I'm going to wait for the R9-290x to release to make my final choice. I watn one card to hold me over as of now and then i will buy a second one in the future. The card I chose will be a MSI card and will have 4gb vram (whether I need it or not). For now is the 780 worth the almost $200 or will the 770 do just fine? If you have experience with these cards please do tell. Once more I know the new AMD cards are promising and I will wait for them to release but for now what will do?

Solution
It all depends on AMD's drivers with the new R9 290X. And how elegant the new board is. Frankly, the present 7970's and 7950's often times run hot and noisy. Nvidia's new 700 series plus their Titan are top quality, cool and quiet. Just compare reviews on newegg.

Assuming AMD comes out with good drivers and boards, the R9 290X appears to be a bit faster than the Titan, but costs less then the GTX 780. That's a bargain. 4GB is what I would consider the minimum for a triple monitor setup so you are covered. If the 290X doesn't live up to the hype, you may consider two 770's with 4GB ram. Or consider two 780's and hope the 3GB will be okay, but you can run out of room. Of course the 6GB Titans are nice and safe, if you have $2,000 in your...
I don't see triple monitors with any single GPU card

here's the best place to look....760, 770 and 780 in 1, 2 and 3 card configs

Single 780

BF3 - 38 fps
Crysis 2 - 35 fps
Crysis 3 - 16 fps
Far Cry 3 - 24 fps
Hitman - 27 fps
Metro 2033 - 19 fps
Metro LL - 27 fps
Tom Raider 20 fps

Twin 770s is SLI needed for most games to stay > 30 fps at hi res.... only twin 780s tho can handle Metro 2033 > 30

This is true if you want to play on highest settings with max AA and so on. If you look at Crysis 3 on medium settings a GTX780 does over 50fps.

Then between those two it's going to be price/performance ratio. Well isn't that what it boils down to everytime? Would a 780 do the job?

Let's hope it's not that price

Look for Nvidia to lower the Titan's price if the 290X is a winner. May take a month or so.

True ive said this before the amd R9-290x looks good but its drivers/CF support and other issues will make or break the card. I dont care how fast a card is if the drivers and issues is a problem then its a no buy for me. The 7990 is insane card but drivers/heating issues mess it up

I was just following along with his stated intent.....

I want to game at ultra settings

.... and if I was investing in three 1920 x 1080 monitors, I'd wanna see all the eye candy too.

True but I just answered in a thread where someone wants to do eyefinity with HD7770, gaming over 3 720P monitors.

does it have the "guts" to push a game smooth enough though? Yeah I want 60 fps but if I can stay above 30 fps I would be happy. 30 fps plays smooth, correct?

I want to hook up a second monitor, a TV monitor, to my EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Classified, but the Nvidia control panel won't pick up my HDMI cable which is plugged into the TV. Any help or ideas?
