Hi,

Right now I have this rig which consists of the following specs:

Intel Core i7-4770 (non K version)
Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H
2 x 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz
Sapphire HD7950 Vapor-X
Kingston HyperX 3k 120GB SSD
WD 1TB HDD
Cooler Master GX Bronze 650W PSU

I have since sold the Sapphire GPU in favour for a GTX 780. I haven't bought it yet, but I'm eyeing on this one: http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/59857-zotac-gefo...

My only concern is, will the CM PSU I have right now able to provide enough power for this particular GTX 780? The review states that this GPU has a load power consumption of about 336W. At this point I should note that the PSU isn't directly plugged into a wall-mounted power outlet. Instead it's plugged into an extension of four, one of them connecting to a wall-mounted air conditioning unit. I'm saying this because I'm not sure whether this will affect the power draw of the PSU or not.

I would really appreciate any opinion about this. Should I change the PSU, or this current one is sufficient enough? Thanks in advance.

A 650w PSU is more than enough. The only issue you may have is that
CM GX 650 is not a good quality unit. So keep an eye on your sys
after you install the 780.

You'll be fine, even with the extra stuff plugged into the wall.

Hi - If you don't have time to read the entire review I linked, then at least read the conclusion & bottom line.

I personally would not run a sys with a high end GPU with this kind of test results.

Oh my goodness. I never actually thought that this PSU is that bad. I mean, I know it's not an excellent one, but this review shattered the glass. I guess I should change the PSU first before buying the GPU. I thank you for helping me out on this.

And thanks to others as well, if a decent quality 650W PSU is more than enough for the rig, I'll get a 650W. Thank you very much! :)

Edit: oh wait, the link you gave me is the review for the non-Bronze version of the PSU. well mine is the newer, slightly better (I suppose) Bronze version. after doing more researches I have decided to get the GPU first, test things out, and only decide whether I'll need a new PSU or not. But hey, thanks anyway! :)

I did some more research. And did come tell that same thing.
It is not so good PSU. I did just wonder why they did not tell that in that first review. Here is 750w review ant here they say that it is only good for 450w.
And that is 750w PSU! Really NOT good PSU.

I did some research too, apparently Cooler Master has two types of these series of PSUs, one is the standard version (the one featured in the link given by you) and the Bronze version. So the standard one was so badly received CM had to make some improvements, and then they added a "Bronze" to the name, which is somewhat positively received by reviewers. What do you think?

I am ashamed that I said it to be OK to use that PSU.
I am also surprised that it did not come up in review I did post.
I can not believe that such bad PSU can be sold under CM name.
Best is stick with quality ones like Seasonic , Corsair , Rosewill Cappstone is my favorite. and Tachyon. New Lightning is nice too.
XFX is cheap good PSU made by seasonic.

I feel I'm part of scam because I did say it is OK to use one.
Hope that this helps others and they will not buy so bad PSU.

Good - Yeah, should be a better unit than the other. Glad you don't need to shell out more $$ for a PSU. Oh, yes it is a better unit. The other one
is OEM'd by Seventeam, yours is OEM'd by Enhance, a much better maker.

Hi - don't take it too hard. jimmychangas ended up with good info and that's what we're trying to do. A lot of PSU brands have some bad units & some good units.

Best to try n find a trusted review on anything you might be interested in.

CM isn't the only company that slapped their name on shoddy product,
because of a good reputation in other categories. I think they might even be changing their approach, they actually have some very good units now, the V series, OEM'd by Seasonic.

Yeah. Some are good some are bad. Lot's OEM makers now.
Same with Super Flower. Rosewill and PC cooling silencer. And maybe some others too.

Since you are PSU master. I have idea.
Can we put up database to Tom's hardware Like list PSU's what are good and what are not? Something like this. Choose PSU brand and model and database tells is it good for your build.

Hi again - Actually Tom's has a list of recommended PSU's. You go to the Power Supply forum, click on the sticky for Power Supply guides & info, then on the next page click the link to A list of recommended Power Supplies.

The only issue with that is, there is no way a list of this type can cover everything. New PSU's are constantly being introduced, good and bad.
No one can keep up with them all.

The best approach is try to find a review by johnnyguru, hardware secrets, hardocp, and a couple others. If there is no review, come to the forum. Also, check the Lemon list and Recommended PSU list on johnnylucky.org.
