I'm doing a budget gaming build (see below) and was just wondering if it will be better if I have a 1gb video card for now and later on upgrade and have 2 1gb video cards OR just buy a 2gb video card now?

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($119.99 @ Amazon)

Motherboard: MSI 970A-G46 ATX AM3+ ($74.99 @ Amazon)

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 ($79.98 @ Amazon)

GPU: Asus Radeon HD 7790 ($129.99 @ Amazon)

Case: Thermaltake VL80001W2Z ATX Mid Tower ($29.00 @ Amazon)

PSU: Rosewill Stallion 400W ATX12V ($35 @ Amazon)

Total: $481.08

The GPU's will share the VRAM so you'll have 1GB no matter how many cards you add.

So there's no additional benefits of buying two 1gb cards?

SimonGranstrom basically answered your question.

I'd just add that you could probably get a better price for an HD 7850. Or that HD 7870 could deserve more of your budget. If not, HD 7770/HD 7790 could be bought at lower prices if picking Sapphire (remember, it's about the reference card and the warranty more than the name, and ASUS tends to overprice their coolers).

You could dial it down to 4GB RAM with a lower frequency (1600 CL9 is best for your rig). You could dial the motherboard down if you're not gonna overclock, since pretty sure at that price it's either a 4+1 or 4+2.

Add the extra cash to a better PSU, a SeaSonic 620w would do the trick. Case is up to you. Processor is golden!

If you were truly on a budget then you'd take these adjustments into consideration.

Go for two 1gb cards if you are staying on that resoloution, go for one 2gb card if you are planning on buying a new 1080p monitor.
