Monitor goes to sleep

hey guys! I just built my first gaming pc and when I turned it on, the monitor turned on but then immediately went back to sleep. the fans on the video card and CPU are working, and so is the keyboard and mouse.

the monitor also works on my other computer. help!

You probably have your power saving options screwed up, try using a different monitor to go to your control panel, system and security, power options, and choose when to turn off display.
