remove write protection from disk

need to format a dvd-r disk but get error message when trying to format it

You can't format optical media with the same Windows formatting tool that's used to format floppies, pen drives and hard drives.

You have to use a different method, also DVD-R media can only be formatted once.

You only need to format optical media if you want to write files directly to it (not recommended). Formatting not necessary if you use mastering software like Nero Burning ROM or Roxio Media Creator.

DVDR is not writable disk, so you are not able to format it.
