remove write protection from disk

need to format a dvd-r disk but get error message when trying to format it

DVD-R disks cannot be re-formatted. DVD-RW disks can be written multiple times.

To find out for sure, download and install VSO Inspector. Click the media tab at top and it will tell you all about any media that you have in the drive (other tabs about your drive's abilities, etc.).
