Hello!

I really need feedback about a new system I am planning to build or buy. It needs to be able to handle the following:

1. (Lightroom Enfuse) - Merge anywhere from 4, 8 12, or 18 raw images (25MB each file) into one image (tif), and repeat that several times simultaneously. IE; merge 4 RAWS, merge 5 RAWS, merge 8 RAWS, Merge 12 RAWS, Merge 8 RAWS, Merge 5 RAWS.... All at the same time.

2. RAW file timelapse.

3. HD Video

The two options I'm considering are:

1. Buy a used (2008 or 2009) Mac Pro - Dual Quad Core Xeon 3.0GHz or 3.2Ghz (8-core) I know a Mac Pro 1,1 Dual Xeon 2.0 GHz (5130) can run 12 simultaneous LREnfues mergers at once. (I know from a friend that does it.)

2. Build with the following -

  • Intel Core i7-4770 Haswell 3.4GHz (Would consider 4770K)
    MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1866 (Will up grade IF I need to)
    SSD Boot Drive
    HHD Array Storage
    650W w/ 2 120mm case fans
    Windows 8.1

Thank you for your help in advance. I'm having difficulty determining which system has the most power and speed. Dual Xeons or i7-4770.

I have seen the CPUbenchmark scores and know that the 4770 scores higher, but don't know how the rest of the system effects the workflow outcome.

Both options are about $1200. Which is the price point I'd like to stay under. If this is a DUH question for you, please remember that it's not for me.

Thank you!

I've found the most important thing is the Video card and hard drive. Since these can be upgraded on both systems it comes down to price. There is a good chance you will find a better deal on the non-Mac video card. Since a 6-7 year old Video Card may not do the job. I personally got rid of my I3770K for a 2009 Mac Pro 8-Core 2.26 and there is no difference except for some reason the video looks better and Of course everything just works.
