If your on Windows 7, press start, right click Computer and press on Manage (you'll need admin rights), a window will open, in the centre box (the biggest one), double click storage, double click Disk Management. All the connected drives will be listed, if its just your verbatim drive connected (nothing else such as a usb flash drive or another hard drive) you should see Disk 0 and Disk 1, Disk 0 will be your main drive, that holds your Operating System, and Disk 1 should be your Verbatim drive (your drive can also be identified by its size [unless you have 2 that have the same capacity], please note the sizes shown will be less that what's written on the drive, for a 320GB drive, it will show up as around 298GB), if theres no partitions for it, the it is possibly corrupt (meaning you've lost everything on it) and needs repartitioning, if your drive isn't showing up then it's most likely faulty and ready for the bin.

To repartition your drive, right click in the area where it says Unallocated and click New Simple Volume then press next 3 times, then rename the drive from New Volume to something you'd prefer such as 'Verbatim Drive', click next then finish. Now close that window and use your drive as normal.

Hope this helps
