I've decided to upgrade my PC and chose all my parts except my GPU.

The most i'm willing to spend on a GPU is $400 though i would prefer to keep it lower if possible. I am currently running an old GTS 250 and looking for a major upgrade.

I game at 1920x1080 on a 21" monitor and I want to be able to use max (or very close to) settings while staying above 60fps. The main reason for the upgrade is to be able to do 25mans on Wow but i would like to be able to keep up with current triple-A games as well.

That being said I was hoping to avoid the expensive gtx 770/680 and was wondering if a 660TI/670/760 would be able to do the trick. However I don't want to end up putting down 250-300 on a GPU then having to upgrade again rather soon because it wasn't enough.

I probably would have just bought a 770 or 680 but my current PSU isn't good enough so it would add an extra ~100 on top for a better one. Also worried about it being bottlenecked and thus making a waste of money.
(The rig will run on i5-3570K with an ASrock z77 extreme4 and 8gb of RAM).

So, will I need to buy a higher end GPU + a new PSU in order to meet my goal or would it be overkill?

What is your PSU? If you look around you can often find nice 770s on sale for less than $400 and I would definitely recommend the 770. Otherwise I would say go AMD as they are priced a little bit better for the performance typically. I will let someone else talk up AMD though, I don't own one :D

Thanks for the quick reply,

My current PSU is a BFG Tech LS SERIES LS-550 550W. I wouldn't mind TOO much about getting a new PSU as i've sorta been wanting a modular one anyway but its gonna add up to quite a bit. Unless the 770 is the only option to keep framerates >60 I am trying very hard not to splurge on it lol.

Yeah I would not feel comfortable using that PSU personally. I would say no matter what it is worth looking into a beefier PSU eventually. That way you can have a little peace of mind and have some wiggle room for future upgrades. If I were you I would look into AMD's GPU offerings and buy a new PSU. Keep in mind that once the new AMD cards come out prices will probably go down some on their current lineup. At lease I would assume they will :p  I recommend XFX for power supplies but a lot of people on these forums like Corsair as well.

Id prefer to stick with nvidia, just more comfortable with them.
I guess i should just play it safe and go with a 770. I would hate to be cheap and end up regretting it...

Any thoughts on bottlenecking or is that a nonissue?

What kind of CPU do you have? It definitely can be an issue. The 770 would be a good choice especially if you wanna hit 60+ fps in a lot of games. The 760 will give you more value technically as you will get a better price/performance ratio but like you said, why be cheap and regret it later if you can just save for another month :D
