I have a wireless desktop that I want to make wired. My router is in another room. What router or access point do I purchase wired/ wireless

If you want to have a wired connection exclusively to your router, then you can buy a long CAT5 ethernet cable to reach to your router.

Otherwise, you could buy another router and use WDS (Wireless Distribution System) between the two routers, but that doesn't change anything since you said that your desktop is already connected to the network wirelessly. Besides that, it's a lot of work and WDS tends to be unstable.
