I think that this is the best computer that you can get for $1000 for video editing/rendering and an amazing gaming experience as well.
CPU: AMD FX 8350 this is an eight core processor from AMD, while most games now a days don't take advantage of eight cores, having those extra four cores over something in the same price range like a 4670k cuts down rendering times immensely. Also, the next gen consoles will be featuring an eight core processor, this is a sign that games will start to take advantage over eight cores in the very near future.
GPU: 7950 this is a great card and product from AMD once again. This card has the performance of around a GTX 670 for $200, this is aimed at gaming at 1080p or even higher with high detail at 60 FPS for almost any modern day game.
RAM: 16GB Ripjaw X - While 16GB of RAM gives you next to no improvement in games, this will help with editing and rendering videos
Cooler: H100i - I went with water cooling on this one because you said that you were going for a rendering/workstation machine, you can overclock the hell out of the processor and get that extra little bit of performance in games and editing softwares
HDD: Barracuda 2TB - For mass storage and such, if you don't need this much space, feel free to go for an SSD or a 1TB hard drive.
Case: Define R4 - Very nice looking, windowed, silence optimized case. I run this in my own build and it is a fantastic case and at $90, this is a steal.
PSU: XFX Pro 750w - XFX is a great brand of power supplies, I run an XFX psu of the same pro series except it's 850w. 750w is plenty of power for any future upgrades including SLI
MOBO: Asrock Extreme4 - Very nice motherboard with a nice feature set, great price point and if you buy it now, you get a combo deal with the mobo and the cpu together.
If you have any questions regarding to this build, be sure to message me!
