Can someone help me pick a new MoBo? I have a Dell Inspiron 570, however I've already bought some upgrades:

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Deneb Black Edition 3.4GHz
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 600W ATX12V v2.3

I'm planning on taking these parts ^^ out of the Inspiron, and building a computer all my own. So basically all I need a compatible MoBo, preferably one with a latch for a heatsinkfan to attach to. The fan that came with the AMD Phenom has a latch to snap into place on the MoBo but the Inspiron MoBo has no attachment for the heatsink fan, and the screws don't line up either, so I'm using the stock Heatsink fan on my (aftermarket?) CPU, & i'm still curious as to whether or not the fan that came with the AMD Phenom II would do a better job at keeping CPU cool.... anyways, any and all input is greatly appreciated!

( and suggestions for a Tower would not be frowned upon either :p  )

Get any AM3+ motherboard. They all come with the appropriate socket to latch onto the stock AMD cooler that comes with it. I'd suggest any of the 990FX series, in case you want to upgrade again later on. The MSI 990FXA-GD65 or GD80 are good boards, and the Gigabyte 990FX is a good board too, based on experience with previous builds. Any of those boards will hook up properly to the provided AMD cooler.

Depends on what you're looking for in tower size. There are a ton of great mid-tower cases that would house that computer fine. In fact, Tom's just did a series of articles on great midtower cases. You should go read those and pick one you like the look of :)

I should've mentioned I was looking for a full size tower.. & to be honest this is my first build so I kind of wanted to go a little over the top with the case.. so i went browsing and i found this: Thermaltake Lv.10 GT

Like I said, a little over the top.. but I really like the "hot-swappable" HDD bays in front and the l.e.d fans are a nice touch too :bounce:  As for the motherboard I'm thinking I'll gonna go with the MSI 990FXA GD80.

Thank you so much for your help! Seriously appreciate it. It wouldve taken me forever to figure this out on my own, there are only so many straight-answers you can get from "Googling it" lol.

Anytime, I'm glad I could help. Yeah, wasn't sure how big you were wanting to go on your tower so I just shot for the middle of the road, but that's a really awesome full-tower case you picked out, so bravo! :)

As for going all out, I totally understand. I graduated college in May and started my full time job two weeks after, so my first paycheck was a bit of a self-graduation gift of going all out on my own desktop build :D

Glad I could help. I recommended the MSI 990FXA-GD80 V2 because I just finished a build for a friend using it and it's been rock solid. The ASUS Crosshair Formula-Z is a great board too. Really just depends on brand preference, but for your first build, that MSI won't steer you wrong, and you can upgrade to an 8-core FX-8350 down the road if you want as well. :)  Enjoy!

Why you want to change MOBO?
I had the same setup as yours, now enhanced with MSI 660. If you want to build new PC, I would recommend to start with new parts. AM3+ is dead end, don't waste your money on it.

If you want challenge, I will give you one - you can move your components to larger case and overclock, this will bring you on the par with i3-i5 CPUs, it will require better cooling.

This approach is more promising than building new PC using old parts, don't forget, you will need new copy of Windows as well - is it worth it?
