I have been getting these sets of usually 8 thin pairs of pink vertical lines about .75 inch tall popping up, sometimes for a short time, sometimes for a long time and sometimes flickering. It is an NEC LCD1990sx being run on a mac mini geforce 9400m with the latest Cuda on 10.8.5. Last OS upgrade only made it slightly worse. Don't know if i need a motherboard or if i should take a wack at replacing the LCD if i can find a replacement somewhere for $50. Anyone experience this Fíng S?

Cables have been switched, it's the same with DVI and SubD both going to mac display port via apple brand adapters.
Computer has 8gb ram and although it is running ok, it does get a kernel panic once a week or so for reasons i can't determine.

Up until just this year i didn't know what a kernel panic was and wow snow leopard and lion certainly removed the confidence in the apple OS having a strong and stable foundation.

I know this is a place of rules and etiquette and i surely broke several and i'll learn as i go and plead retarded and ask the court for tolerance

Sounds like the monitor is broken. Do you have another one you can test?

I will pull a samsung from a windows unit and check it out. That's a good suggestion. I think i paid a buttload of money for the NEC, it's a few years old and i woulda hoped it would last 5 more light duty years.

Just switched monotors with a windows 7 machine and determined it is indeed a symptom of a failing GPU which is unfortunately soldered to the motherboard if i'm not mistaken. If anyone knows the proper procedure for asking advice on repairing the answer to this thread? do i ask here or start another topic? Do i F O & D?

You should start a new thread to get input from others as well (I don't know everything, though I certainly wish I did!), but I don't think you'll be able to fix it yourself. You'll most likely have to take it to a local computer shop to get it fixed (though I doubt they can, unless they're really good), and if they can't, you'll have to send it back to Apple for repairs.

If you're under warranty still, definitely send it to Apple, though, in my opinion.
