I am 15 years old. I work out pretty good. I am an average guy, maybe even a little above average. I look around though and I see guys that are pretty big. They are done growing and I am not, but I have been working out longer than most of them. Whats the problem?

Could be several things. Nutrition, genetics, etc. When you say you are working out "pretty good", what is your routine?

Arm work, leg work, core work. I am a very fit athlete, don't get me wrong. But I want to get bigger. I eat well, and my dad is a big guy. I'm still growing, but is that why I'm not gaining mass?

It's good that you're rounding out rather than doing what some people in the gym do, which is build their arms up yet have scrawny little legs. First and foremost, make sure your nutrition is adequate. Plenty of lean proteins, I would say if you want to gain weight probably 1.2g of protein per pound of body weight. Some people think that's excessive, but any extra protein your body doesn't use will be expelled. It's better to have a little extra than not enough. Also, I would say to supplement as you are likely burning off a lot of minerals and other nutrients that will need to be replaced. A quality multi-vitamin is almost a must, as would be zinc, vitamin D, and magnesium (cream form preferable, the pills aren't as effective from what I'm told). Creatine monohydrate, thought not a vitamin or mineral, is a fairly safe supplement if not abused. A good probiotic is also recommended. Second, hydrate. The 64 oz of water per day thing is a bit outdated. In fact, when I was hitting the gym daily I was drinking 1-1/2 gallons of water throughout the day. Third, make sure your routine is effective. What do I mean by that? If you notice, a lot of people at the gym (both men and women) will just do a basic exercise like an arm curl machine and will do either 15 reps at light weight or a few reps until they get tired. Then they move on to another machine. It's really kind of pointless. Have a good, strong workout plan ready to go and execute it, hitting as many muscle groups for the part of the body you're working. I like the German Body Comp workout http://www.poliquingroup.com/ArticlesMultimedia/Article..., but some of these on the following website are good as well. http://www.muscleandstrength.com/workouts/muscle-buildi... Lastly, be sure to get adequate rest. This is probably one of my bigger downfalls when I've tried to work out. I don't sleep. If I can get 3-4 hours of sleep without waking up I'm thrilled.

Here are some good websites to give you a little more information. We used to use Austin Dossey as a trainer (unfortunately, my wife's work schedule began to interfere) and I got most of my information from him. He has some good articles on his website to dig around and look at. http://www.dosseyts.com/

Another is the Poliquin Group. Tons of good stuff on there. http://www.poliquingroup.com/

Best of luck to you and keep working at it.

Do u think that i will be able to gain mass more when I'm done growing? Like if I work for it? Because I workout, and I'm only15 years old, but I have a lot of growing left. I'm 5 11 and te doc said I will be 6 1. So im a lengthy guy, with some muscle. Like a baseball player. There not big but not really small, just lengthy. Do u know what I'm trying to say? Oh and thanks for the other ino

It's not uncommon for a major growth spurt to occur between 15-19. In fact, look at some of the high school basketball players that might be only 5'7 or so and by the time they're in college they're 6'3" or taller.

I've packed on a few pounds since I had to cut back time in the gym but when I was doing heavy lifting and burning body fat the lightest I could get was about 10 pounds heavier than I was in high school and that's because over the years I added some lean mass. I am more fit now 20 years later and have a lower body fat percentage yet still weigh more than I did when I was 17. However, my height has been the same. So yes, you can still gain mass even after growing.

You should post pictures of yourself and provide your stats so I have a better idea of what you look like. The problem may reside with diet and training... are you tracking your macros (c/f/p)?

You will see an increase in strength, but not so much size while you are still gaining height. Once your height is fixed, that is when any weight you put on will start to show more dramatically.

If strength is your primary concern, an ideal thing to do would be to focus most on core and legs. These are the muscle groups which will help you move big objects, bodyslam etc.

If your primary goal is size, then you need a hyper trophy based program. This will induce your muscles to gain size which will result in you gaining mass.

I guess the only thing I can suggest is to keep yourself healthy and have enough rest. By having enough rest, your body can work properly. Just my two cents.
