AMD Mantle API engineers working on OpenGL extensions????

AMD seems to be working on Mantle API type high performance extensions for OpenGL sure seems as if they are is it possible most likely have video on topic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4isFvbBcdC4 would this change some people minds if they are big gamers on which graphics card to get if this is successful as this means developers would be able to not only get as much as they could out of AMD GCN based systems but also as well as OpenGL based systems.

For those that have and will move away from AMD because of constant driver issues I don't think Mantle will entice them back.
