The GPU in the ps3 is so bad, it wouldn't be able to play any games. To the monitor part, yes you can.

I use my PS3 on a monitor, don't listen to thomas trolling, but it will look fine, games on PS3 look like about the medium setting on PC.

The Ps3 GPU can't play any recent games, what are you talking about.

Yes, you can purchase a monitor and use an HDMI cable to connect it with a PS3. Make sure that you actually buy a monitor with an HDMI input and not just VGA or DVI.

The PS3 uses a really outdated graphics card by anyone's standards. The equivalent PC graphics card equivalent to it is the GeForce 7800GTX, but there's no point in getting that. It's outdated and no longer manufactured. If you find it on eBay or something, it'll be anywhere from $25 to $200.

If you're looking for a good graphics card for a cheap price, get a Radeon HD 7750 or a GTX 650. Both are way ahead of the graphics card inside a PS3 and are around $70 - $110.

Well like I said, they're way ahead of the graphics card inside the PS3 so you definitely will, and you have the option of being able to play at higher settings and/or at a higher resolution and/or with a higher frame rate than the PS3 will allow.
