I have a I5 2500k on an Asus P9P67. I had overclocked quite stable at 4.5 GHZ, but the temperatures went up 87 Celcius, so I dicided to upgrade to watercooling. After installing the watercoller, I got a message, overclock failes. So I went into the Bios to check the setting, which were the same is was running at 4,5. By mistake I pressed the OC Tuner. The Computer resetet ans started a couple of times. Since this moment the computer is frozen at 1.6 Ghz, also when i run Prime 95. i reseted the Bios to default, I rested the Cmos. I tried a couple of things within Bios. No change, CPU always at 1.6GHZ

I hope someone can help. Did I blow up the CPU or the Motherboard.

Kind regards

Rene

Hi,

Does disabling the power saving features (C1E, Speedstep, C states ETC...) have any effect?

Have you tried flashing the BIOS?

Hi,

thanks for your reply. Power Management is disabled. I also tried to enable and disable Speed Step Modus, Turbo Mode etc. I am not sure if I flashed the BIOS. I set the Jumper to set back CMOS. The 3 three C values are all diabled.

Kind regards

Rene

I would personally try flashing the BIOS then, check your motherboard manufacturers website for the latest BIOS version.

I take it your temps are much better since going with watercooling? Reason I ask is because if your temps are really high (for whatever reason) the CPU will throttle it's clocks and voltage to save itself from cooking. I just want to rule it out.

Difficult to say. At ide CPU temp is 28. under Prime 95 at 1.6 ist is below 40C.
Bios is the latest. It is Asus P8P67 Pro. There is something EZ Flash. I am trying this. Thanks

Ok good, temps aren't the issue then.

Let us know how you get on with the BIOS flash.

ThrottleStop 6.00
http://www.thedigitalhq.com/downloads/

Use the above program and try disabling BD PROCHOT. When this is enabled, other items on your motherboard can send a signal to your CPU and trick it into throttling just as if it was running too hot. Disabling this will prevent that signal getting to the CPU. Your CPU will still be able to thermal throttle if it actually gets too hot whether this is checked or not. The above program also has a few other features to get your CPU running at its intended speed so post some pics if you are still having problems.
