my pc wont recognize my external hard drive . and when i plug it in , it wont respond BUT when i unplug it it says it needs to be formatted . how can i repair this ? please help .

Does it work fine in other computers? Then please don't format and lose your data

You could try using check disk function using cmd. Open command prompt after connecting your HDD,and note your HDD drive letter.Make sure you run the cmd as administrator. (Right click-Run as administrator)
Then type this command: chkdsk x: /f ----> where you need to replace the x by your drive letter.
