There is someone selling their old rig for $500. The specs look good, but I don't know how well they do in current gaming. Is this a good deal? If I buy it, what should I upgrade in the future?

Here are the specs:

AMD Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition 3.6GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Desktop Processor

ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL

NVIDIA GTX 580 Video Card

WDC WD10EALX-009BAD 1TB Hard drive

ASUS 24X DVD Burner - CD-ROM Black SATA Model DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS - OEM

Crossfire Ready 850W Power Supply - (Brand unknown, did not take the PC apart, either a Thermaltake or a Corsair)

Antec Full-Size Tower with 7 Built in fans, and numerous front ports -

Look gere how much new price is.

We can help you here build cheap and good build with new parts too.

I think cheapest intel i5 build is about 7-800 so that sounds like a good deal.
But it only souds like. I did buy about year ago LGA 1366 960 cpu + sabertooth mobo + psu 80$ price. And cpu + mobo do still have warranty on. about year or so.

Now I did buy 3930k + gigabyte X-79 UD3 mobo for cheap price. MoBoo was new. CPU was used.

With 700 you can build this.

Your build costs $175 more. Is it any better? This offer is already built, has tons of fans and comes with OS. I can also pick it up in a day. If yours isnt any better, is being new really worth it? My budget right now is about $500-550

If the PSu is a thermaltake, it will need to be replaced because its junk. Corsair is alright.

The CPU is 4+ years old. The motherboard is good and the Ram is good. The GPU is HORRIBLY inefficient. (pulls as much power as 2x 7970s and only is as powerful as a 7870) But, it should still run games at high settings.

It all depends on the game when deciding how this will perform. Games like Farcry 3 will probably run at high, while games like Bioshock infinite that love CPU power, will run at medium. Games that like a quadcore CPU but still need per-core performance like bf4 may experience some slowdowns while running at high settings still.

Even though that CPU is a quad-core, there are some games, that even a lowly dual-core i3 will eat it alive on.
