The two I have it down to are the BenQ XL2420TE and the Dell U2713HM. "Those are very different monitors, guy" I can hear you saying. Yes, I realize. The price point is pretty different as well. Assume that price is irrelevant.

I have a problem with being indecisive. I'm currently putting together a new rig that will catapult me into the modern era of PC gaming. Relevant components if you need to know them are an nVidia 770 4gb (which at some point down the road I will get a second and SLI), intel 4770 3.5ghz CPU and 16 gigs of ram.

The reasons I've latched on to these two (and can't decide) are because of the differences between them. BenQ has a much better input lag than the Dell and runs at 144hz (though 120hz is probably the most it will see) and is a 24". The Dell is the bigger 27" and runs at the impressive native 2560 x 1440 resolution with reportedly amazing color accuracy out of the box.

My concerns about the Dell are that 27" might just feel too big for PC gaming (will be doing a fair amount of BF4 when it comes out, Skyrim, BL2, SC3 and LoL) and that the input lag borders on just enough that it might bother me. I'll be going to an actual store to look at a 27" monitor tomorrow for size comparison, but until actually playing the specific Dell in my own space it's a bit hard to tell. The BenQ on the other hand appears on paper to be much smoother (better input lag and 120hz) but doesn't "look as good" as far a color display/accuracy, brightness, the panel being TN vs the IPS, etc.

Things that I know are different but don't really care about: 3d ability (gives me a headache), viewing angle (it's just for me and I'll be sitting right in front), input/ports (either is fine for my needs) and power consumption.

Now, if I get the BenQ I may just add 2 more when I get my second 770 in 6 months or so, but I've never actually played on a 3 monitor setup, so that is all speculative. (But if 27" is too big??... yeah, the multi-monitor would probably be more gimmicky and for PvE games over PvP).

Essay over! Please choose for me, I've wasted too much of my life going back and forth. >_<

I Would go for the Dell as it is bigger and more pixels!! The dell will look nicer but anything over 60fps on both screens you can't really tell the difference on gaming. Since the Fell is 1440p and the BenQ is only 1080p. The BenQ has a much faster 144mhz rate but as i said before the human eye can't really tell the difference between 60fps and 100fps. I have a 27" monitor and it is so much better than a 24" as i find them really small now. I would say much better performance out of the Dell.

Thanks for the suggestion. How far away do you play from your monitor though? When I went into the store today, the 27" monitors felt monstrous from about 3' away. Granted, I wasn't able to sit in front of one and play a game, so maybe it would feel okay. I just don't want to end up with something that hampers my gaming experience rather than adding to it.

I actually play quite close to my 27" monitor (about 40cm). First when I got it my eyes felt a little weird since the only screen i ever looked at was a 13.3" macbook pro screen. My eyes had eventually adjusted and now gaming is really cool with no eye strain and it doesn't bother me. What you are feeling about being close is ordinary, just takes a few days for your eyes to get used to it.
