geforce 8400 gs or geforce 610 ? which is better

Need replacement of 8400 gs video card in an old computer. Both cards are compatible but is one better ans more reliable.

I never knew that there was a card that the GT 610 outperformed before I compared it to the 8400 GS on passmark. The GT 610 is double the performance of the 8400 GS, not that you'd notice because it's like saying that 2 pieces of paper are double the strength of 1. It's still damn weak. The GT 610 does use way less power though and it is a more modern card. Having said that, if the 8400 GS supplied adequate performance, then I would recommend the Radeon HD 5450 because even though it's weaker than the GT 610 (see the remark about the strength of paper), it's more powerful than the 8400 GS and only costs $30 from newegg and you get a $10 mail-in-rebate pushing the price down to $20. It's literally the cheapest discrete card on the market:
