I have a lenovo z570 which has an intel hd 3000 integrated graphics chip.

I'd like to use a 27 inch qhd monitor that outputs 2560 x 1440. The maximum my intel hd 3000 supports is around 1900 x 1200.

Is it possible to buy an external graphics card to use when I am at home and wanting to connect to the 27 inch qhd screen?

Ideally it should have linux drivers too as I wish to use ubuntu or mint.

Thanks!

Alec

There are USB 3.0 adapters that should work. Be aware that they are not exactly inexpensive, nor will they be graphical powerhouses.

I am not super familiar with the USB 3 adapters, but USB 2 adapters would often struggle to keep a smooth frame rate for even videos. Since USB 3 has a much larger bandwidth, it should be improved, but I don't know who well they would handle QHD.
