i do know the r9 270x's are basically just renamed 7870s but based on some reviews and benchmarks i read the r9 270x, (the asus one anyways) actually does a LITTLE bit better, and has the dx 11.2 and what not, just some features the 7870 doesnt have that im aware of anyways.
the link for the asus r9 270x = http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121802

right now the r9 270x is only $10 more but the 7870 is on sale but will probably go back up to $230 soon. i want some help deciding which will be better in the long run for the new games coming out like bf4, witcher 3, titan fall etc. and if it helps/matters my case is a thermal take commander and i have a corsair cx 600w psu, 8gb ram.

They are pretty much right at the same price, right around $200, I sort of keep an eye on Asus GPUs (love their CU cooling) and right now the 7870 is $200 and the 270X is $210 (at the Egg anyway) for the $10 I'd go the 270X

i think i changed what i want now actually. i was looking at benchmarks and i think i will either go with a radeon hd 7950 (asus or sapphire version) or a gtx 760 (asus version). they are pricier but i am going to wait until the next newegg sale for the new gpu. i am currently rocking a 5750 so anything would be an upgrade really. but with these two new card choices will they still fit fine in my thermaltake commander?

Highly recommend getting a 760 (I have the msi twin frozr 760 and the thing is a beast! plays everything maxed 1080p and never goes over 60c).

but with the 7950 it is a 3gb 384 bit vs. 760 with 2 gb 256 bit. does that difference really matter? and the 7950 comes with the never settle forever bundle with 3 games vs 760 with only 1. is the difference that big that it is well worth the 760 even with lower specs? http://anandtech.com/bench/product/855?vs=854 here is a benchmark between the two for a quick reference. and i dont know if i posted before but if it helps i have a fx-6300, 8gb ram, 600w psu. and the same commander case.

so from bringing my dead post back to life and after alot of looking around at prices, benchmarks and what not i have come with 3 choices, the 270x, the geforce 760 and the 280x. knowing the new games that are starting to come out and are being made the majority are leaning towards amd cards like bf4 and the new mantle feature with amd. the r9 280x is out of my comfort zone with the price and 760 is where im comfortable with the price but the r9 270x is a bit weak. from the benchmarks i seen the 270x is at the adequate level of performance but im looking for something that will last another little blowing games out of the water before having to tone it down. and im hoping you guys can inform me that geforce cards are still going to be strong and not too far behind the amd cards i will be happy to go with the 760. but so far im convinced with a 270x or wait for a sale on 290x. and it would help alot if you guys posted a link to a trusted benchmark page with these 3 cards. its hard to find a good benchmark with lats light, skyrim, bf4 MULTIPLAYER. it ticks me off when benchmarks do bf4 single player. i know its more accurate but who buys battlefield for single player? thanks

do you own games like lastlight, skyrim and battlefield 4? if you own metro and skyrim do you know what frames you get and what settings do you play on those games? and if you own battlefield 4 what do you get for fps and what settings for the multiplayer?

did you ever try ultra? the card i have now is a hd 5750 and i can play bf4 high with 30fps average. but i play on medium so i dont dip down as far. i want to be able to play highest quality 1080p on every game thats out. and it seems that a 760 can do it. but id like 40fps average and not dip down 30 in heavy gameplay.

yea a 760 is after all seeming like it fits the bill for me. even though i was putting up a fight about it before on this post. but do you think itll still be fine when games favor amd cards? i seen in bf3 benchmarks lower geforce cards do great compared with higher amd cards but that should change with bf4 and amd being partners or what ever. what do you think?

i think ur gonna do fine either way 760 or 7950 or 7970 or 280x. all are good cards. if u wanna hold off to blackfriday id recommand that. the 760 is good,

but the 280x can offer afew fps more. but also cost more currently. but who knows blackfriday might change that :).

easy answer if u can wait get the 280x if comes on sale. if not get the 760 or a 7950 or 7970 :)

yea im waiting for a sale definitely. or Christmas were i get Christmas money. but im waiting for a sale anyways. thanks for your help. and if anyone comes across this they are welcome to throw in their words too.

well 4 gig versions are a waste of money since the 760 cant really utilize all that vram. not quite fast enought. also u pay a premium for little performance increase.

id say the gigabyte 760 oc has a factory overclock and overclocks well and with the wind-force cooler fans is well chilled and temps dont go too high.
