R9 280x and 7950 Crossfire

Hi all,

Is it possible to crossfire my His IceQ Radeon 7950 with one of the new R9 280x cards?

Yea the 7900 serise can crossfire with the R9 280X

You can but it will slow the other card down. The R9-280X is the HD 7970. When the R9-280 is released, it will be the same as the HD 7950. I would wait for that one because it will be cheaper and will give you the same power. Having said that, the HD 7950 can currently be had for $200 so you might just crossfire that.

Is there even such a thing as the R9-280? (specifically without the x) i haven't read anything about it. Also, which card will be slowed down and why would it do so?

There will be no R9 280 from AMD.

The 280x will be slowed down as it is the faster card. I'm not sure of the technical aspect, but that's just the way it works. Probably to stop one card from rendering frames to far ahead of the other card.
