Hi Everyone 'on' Tom's Hardware,

Have another problem:

the message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropiate permissions to access the item." appeared when I was tyring to install the Iconoid program for Vista onto our Vista installed laptop.

Soon after the message appeared I searched online for a FREE solution.

Then I found the "File Association Fixer" program on The Windows Club website.

I then tried the program after downloading and installing it, but it did not 'fix it'!

So, I am asking for a solution - PLEASE provide a SIMPLE to understand instruction.

Thank you for your patience in this matter and I look forward to receiving your reply soon.

The problem is nothing to do with file associations, the clue is in the error message "You may not have the appropiate permissions to access the item"; you are trying to install something that requires a higher level of access than you currently have; right-click and select run as administrator, but only if you trust and know what you are running 100%, this is a protection mechanism to stop the ill-informed from installing something potentially malicious.

Hi JustSomeJoe,

Have just 'returned' to Tom's Hardware and have read your reply.

As soon as I read it I did what you suggested but still received
the same error message.

So, if possible, please can you provide me with another solution:
is it to do with 'administrator permissions?

Thank you again for your patience and look forward to receiving a
reply from you soon.
