I'm a bit confused on the type of fans I'll need to take advantage of Fan Xpert. I assumed that all the fans would need to be PWM, but based on some forum posts and especially the newegg video review of the software it kind of seemed like it was controlling the fans via voltage.

Do I need pwm fans or can I use normal ones. Is it different for the cpu fan?

asus z87 pro
noctura a14 flx (non pwm)
noctua d14 cpu cooler (also non pwm)

Hi,

I have an ASUS M5A99FX Board and I use AI suite (Fan XPert). Yes, it is correct that you need to have PWM fans to be able to use fan xpert for them. The reason you need a 4pin pwm is because 3 pin normal fans dont have a means of changing speed, they are constantly supplied with power and so stay at one speed. For the CPU cooler, you also need a 4pin PWM fan. Most coolers have pwm fans but in your case it doesn't. You may need to change it to a pwm or otherwise, if you just leave it, you wont be able to change speeds using fanxpert.

hope this helps!
