Hi there! I am building my own PC, and I am using an AMD FX-4300 and a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 motherboard. On gigabyte's website, it says I should update my motherboard with the most current BIOS to enable support for this CPU Right Here. I just need to know if this is really nescessary.

If I can't boot the system, then how can I install the bios update?
Or do you mean that I can boot the computer, and I can boot from a usb containing the bios update? I'm a bit confused.

Therein lies the biggest conundrum of getting an older board and newer cpu, you won't be able to even get into the bios to update it unless you have an older cpu that is compatible with the current bios...it's irritating, but just how the bios cookie crumbles
