Sometime in the next few months I plan to upgrade my monitor. Right now I have an ASUS VE248H 24" 60hz monitor and a 770 4gb graphics card. At first I thought I would get 2 more identical monitors for under 400 but the bezel is HUGE. So now I don't know if I should do that.

My other options are 27" 120 hz monitor (ex. BenQ) or 27" 1440 res monitor (ex. LG)
I have never experienced 120 hz or a higher res than 1920x1080 so I don't know what would be the best upgrade.

For reference I do plan to SLI the 770 4gb and I would like the monitor solution to be around or under the $500 US range.
What would be the best upgrade? I have only been pc gaming for 2 years and all I know is my current monitor.

Thanks!

I have a very similar setup to what you described. 4gb 770's in SLI and 3 24in monitors. I slid the 2 side monitors over so the bezels overlapped and I really don't notice it and my bezels are wider than yours. IMO they just blend in and go away. For what it's worth I love gaming in surround and would never go back to a single monitor.

When I was entertaining the idea of a surround setup I thought about overlapping the bezels, but wasn't sure if the added depth to each side of the monitor would be annoying. That definitely makes me feel a little more confident about adding 2 more monitors as an option.

I would recommend going with 1440p! Although the 3 monitors do offer a higher resolution (horizontally only mind you) I think it is quite a cumbersome solution and personally prefer the advantages of a single monitor. Gaming in 1440p will RUIN 1080p for you. It will give you that same feeling upgrading to a 1080p TV gave you when you looked back at your old 720p TV.

Although no 1440p display is 120Hz refresh capable out of the box there are numerous VERY affordable (300-400$) Korean IPS displays that can be easily overclocked to 120Hz, the QNIX being the most famous I believe.

I think in the end it comes down to personal preference. I bet most people who watch a few minutes of gaming at 1440p at high FPS would prefer a single 1440p to 1080px3 but again that is a personal decision. I would STRONGLY recommend finding a 1440p screen somwehre and gaming on it for a few minutes, I'm prettu sure this will make up your mind. You should be all set for amazing FPS with GTX7704GB x 2 in SLI even at 1440p.

I actually just started reading about Korean 1440p's that "oc" to around 100hz. Unfortunately most of my friends game on console rocking 30 fps on a 60", so I probably won't get a chance to try out a 1440 unless I buy one. It is really tempting to go with one of the relatively cheap Korean monitors, but would make me a little nervous.
Will I notice a difference between the 2ms response time and the 8ms on these?

That is a hard question to answer. I would think no one would notice the difference between 2ms and 8ms but I might be wrong. The 120hz refresh mean at 120 FPS you are getting a new frame every 8.3 ms, I dont know how the raltionship between Hz and ms refresh time works. I also wonder about the benefits of 2ms refresh times on 60Hz monitors where you are only getting a new frame every 16.6 ms and therefore how is a 2ms refresh and advantage? Perhaps someone can shed some light here. Also this is a good website that I have only recently discovered where we might find some answers although I don't have the time to do my homework on this right now.

I bet you once you see 1440p tho you will rather game at 1440@60Hz than 1080p@120hz, I have a 1080p 120Hz screen gathering dust and I bought my 1440p before i read about the models that can be OC'd, I'm "stuck" at 60Hz. 1440p@120Hz is simply the best of both worlds and no one will argue it is the way to go if your GPU can push >60FPS at 1440p.

Let me know how this works out!
