Hello guys,

Before asking this question I have been looking all over the internet for a solution but I can't find one.

Ok, so I bought a pc ready built and then I added a graphics card to it. This caused extra heat and since my case was a stock one I upgraded it to an nzxt phantom 410. The isssue I am having is ever since I upgraded my power supply( from 300 watts to 850) and moved all the components into the new case I have been having some strange problems that werent happening before:

1) My Disk keeps skyrocketing to 100% even if I'm not doing anything. When I open my Resource monitor to check what is using my disk the processess are MSMPENG.exe and svchost.exe(LocalSystemNetworkRestricted) and SearchIndexer.exe The first two processes seem to switch between reading and writing whereas the last one is just writing. I have also noticed that System also uses a lot of disk.

2) When I put my PC to sleep and try to wake it, it comes back on but my screens don't come back on. When I try to manually turn them on, it appears that they are not recieving a signal and I am forced to turn off my pc and turn it back on. I read about going into power management and turning off sleep mode and I have done that but it still does not change. I even went into the bios or boot setup (whatever it's called) when you turn on the pc and tried looking for a power saving function but couldnt really find one.

3) Least important of my issues but the Case itself has a fan controller in it with 3 speeds and 3 built in fans. Initially none of the fans were working so I unplugged the fans from the controller and swapped them around and now the fans work but the 3 speed slider does not change the speed of the fans. (Basically in this case the fans are connected to the speed controller and then the controller gets power via molex from power supply).

These issues are really bumming me out since my PC was basically running better before trying to upgrade it. Any help would be appreciated to any of the issues and I would be forever grateful :)

That PSU is not very good quality, this could be an issue. Also, a 500w unit would be more than enough for your system. That 850w unit is operating at a VERY low percentage of its total power making it operate VERY inefficiently.

Also, are you positive everything is connected properly?

Thanks for the quick reply. Could you possibly recommend a decent power supply? (keep in mind that I am planning upgrades in the future).

Since this was my first time wiring and stuff I took pictures of all the wiring before I took it apart. I am pretty sure my wiring was correct but I had some issues where my power switch wasn't plugged in properly and like i mentioned above the fans. I am planning to take it apart and put it back together this weekend.

Do you think doing a full system restore would solve the disk problem?

Anything 500w-650w form antec, XFX, Corsair (not CX line), or Seasonic will be good.

That cx600m is a good unit. MAKE SURE you get the cx600M not the normal cx600. MUCH better quality. The gs600 is good too. The EVGA isn't great.

Do I think its causing your problems? Maybe. I would try a fresh install of windows first. BUT, I would replace PSU regardless of whether it is the problem or not. It is the single most important part of the PC. If it fails (junky ones do ALL THE TIME), it can ruin all the rest of your computer.

Ok great. I'll install windows tonight and change out the PSU and keep you updated :)

Ok so I did a system restore, took apart everything and got the new power supply and still the same issues.

Something strange happened which was that my computer suddenly froze (keyboard and mouse lights went off) but the screens were still frozen on desktop but I couldn't do anything, then the pc died and turned on again.

Have your cleared the CMOS?

Also have you run memtest for 6+ passes? This could definitely be a RAM issue.
