Yo!

After taking one look at Synology 4+ bay systems I patted my wallet and decided to build my own NAS (with community assistance)

What i have laying around:
Asus A8V Deluxe
Athlon 64 3500 (2.2 GHz)
ATI All-in-wonder card.
1 GB of Ram (2 x 512)

If the community deems the MOBO good enough, I can pick up the top of the line* 939 chip off ebay for $30 - Opteron 180 2.4 GHz Dual-Core .
Some kind of Linux compatible video card - $10
4 GB of ram for another $20 (looks like I can even get ECC for $30-40)
and PCI Sata raid controller.. if i can find one.

Thoughts, Suggestions?

Thanks Jinks, looking at that motherboard / cpu i dont really see much benefits of buying that board/combo vs using my existing hardware. Cpu is half the speed of Opteron and mobo doesn't come with PCI express. So, the only real benefit is slight reduction in power consumption.

Are there specific reasons you think that combo is better for NAS over what i have?
