Data recovery software

Accidentally started a format on a hard drive and need to be able to recover the files on it. Long story short, I had more than one hard drive installed and started the format on the wrong drive but quickly saw my mistake. Unfortunately, it went a few seconds too long and now the drive is no longer recognized and it tells me I need to format it in order to do anything. I'm looking for some software that can help me recover those files. My wedding pics are on there amongst many other pics, music, files that I need. Can anyone suggest some good software that will do the job, whether freeware or not? I don't care if it costs me something, I just need something that will work. Thank you for any help you can give me.
