Thanks for reading guys.

I am finally going to be upgrading the CPU on my old PC, the motherboard is the model "m2n68-am se2" and the CPU I wish to replace the old one with is (haven't bought yet) "AMD Phenom II X6 1045T".

I have done research and found that this is one of the best CPUs that I can fit into this old motherboard. It's to my knowlege that the processors AM3 socket is backwards compatible with the motherboard's AM2+ socket.

Before I shell out a small fortune on obtaining one, can anyone confirm that they are compatible, either by experience or knowlege?

Thanks again.

Most am2+ board can use am3 cpus just needs a bios update most likely and cpu needs to match the required tdp. My friend uses a x4 945 on his gigabyte am2+ board and i could of thrown a phenom ii x2 555 in a am2 gigabyte board, just need to check the manufacturers website on the board and look up compatible cpu and if a bios update is required. I could throw a new fx 8350 in my am3 board with beta bios

Thanks for the replies, I forgot to mention I had already updated the bios to version 1801, luckily it updated without a problem.

I think I'm just going to consider my options, it may just be better to buy a new Motherboard and CPU, looking at price-wise it wouldn't cost much more.

Keep in mind, if you are using an OEM license of Windows, it may balk when it sees a new MB when you go to activate it. It's about 50-50 chance from my experience. Not a deal breaker, just something you may have to jump thru a few hoops to get solved.

There are methods to not have to re-install Win7 when you change boards. If you want to try to use the existing Win7 installation with a new MB, check this out: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/making-sure-windows-7-will-boot-after-changing-the-motherboard/

Thanks for the heads up, this is useful, my new MB is arriving tomorrow.

And then for the new CPU, GPU, possibly a new case may be needed.
