Add the word porn and it gets the views!

http://www.southcarolinaradionetwork.com/2013/10/07/sc-drivers-urged-to-watch-for-deer-after-4th-motorcyclist-killed-in-a-month/

I'm sure it's bad all over the US where deer are prominent but especially where I live, right now!

My wife hit one going to work last year, thankfully she did not get hurt and the car was repairable.

Usually the Deer stick to their trekking paths and times of day but not now, they're out all times of the day which is extremely dangerous the smaller the vehicle you're in.

Motorcycle wise you literally don't have a chance.

Very few on motorcycles have ever survived a collision with a Deer and presently it is very bad, because they're everywhere.

There's a sport bike motorcycle club in our area that run down the road we call Deer Lane, because it's filled with wonderful curves and hills, they run down through there anywhere from 80 ~ 100+ mph.

One of these days, it will be a pick them up and put them in baggies day, it's just a matter of time!

Porn from a retired moderator, Suckers!

I'm in SC also, and you aren't kidding about these deer being out in force! I don't typically see too many out near the roads during the day, but this year they've been getting more and more bold about it.

I sold my sport bikes... don't really miss them.

I live 45 minutes from the Tail of the Dragon. While deer aren't really in that area because of high volumes of people, I've had multiple friends killed on the Tail or Cherhwhatever Highway. Very well aware of the dangers of being on a motorcycle. Even a Turkey has killed bikers.

If the object is less than half the height of your front tire, you can run it over. If it is bigger, well, avoid it or you're going to be hurting.

Being from NW Ohio, the Deer up there grew large and are very well over populated. There are areas where they don't allow any kind of hunting, bow or gun, and the deer know it. They over populate the area and cause a lot of damage.

Having narrowly missed a couple of them a few years back it was the idea of getting humped from behind whilst watching out for the ones in front that got my attention!

I hit one when I was younger. The stupid state trooper told me to put it in the trunk of my car.. that I had to take it with me. Luckily is was deer season and a guy driving by picked it up and took it for me.

I was on an FZR1000 at the time so neither hitting one or taking it home afterwards was an option!

Cool to meet a fellow South Carolinian at THF! :)

The wife and I were going into town the other day, in the middle of the day and a huge buck ran across the road ahead of us, we both were glad we dodged that bullet!

They rarely run in the middle of the day but for now it's game on for them!

You referring to Deals Gap?

http://www.tailofthedragon.com/

A friend of mine totaled his Honda Blackbird earlier this year, he was OK, he's one lucky dude, that's his 2nd wreck up there on the Dragons Tail, both times he totaled the bike.

He is die hard though, I'll give him that, he already has another one!

Yeah Ryan, I'm not too far from it. Deal's Gap, AKA The Tail. I went up there and rode around on it last year. Only thing to fear on a bike: Oncoming traffic.

I haven't been up there since they put the traffic light in the middle of it. Did get my pics from KillBoy though when I was up there.

The tail is fun.. once. I didn't really see the excitement to it. I'd rather go to a track than ride up there. The Skyway is where most people ride and enjoy themselves.. you can actually look at stuff when you're riding.

I had a YZF600R and changed out the gears for more low end. I also had an '07 R6.. was disappointed with it. Extremely uncomfortable, strictly a track bike, and the low end was horrible. Really made for a track.. didn't want to invest the money to change out gears. Ended up selling it to some guy in Nashville who wanted it for his living room. Not to ride because he didn't know how to ride, but literally for a talking point in his living room.

Middle Georgia here. I have hit and killed 4 in my life. I'm about 15 miles north of Macon and the city has slowly been building up in my direction but even 8 or 10 years ago it was not uncommon to see a herd of 12 to 15 of them in the yard at night. Slowly that has been reduced to 3 or 4.

I was lucky with all 4 I hit and never had even any bad damage. I had a buddy with a 79 Camaro that hit one dead on and it came through his windshield. Thankfully he wasn't hurt but it totaled that car.

We have those deer warning whistles on both of our vehicles and they actually do work.

On our car there was no convenient mounting place where they were suggested lower in front bumper area if possible, so I mounted the set on each mirror support arm, didn't think that mounting location would be a problem until we rolled the window down.

You couldn't stand to have the windows rolled down at about 30+ mph they were so loud, the faster you went the louder they got.

It was like they formed a sound bubble, but I found a lower front area to mount them as once you know the exact pitch level of sound they produced you could hear them even with the windows up on the interstate at 70mph.

So for what it's worth the deer warning whistles do work, if they're just standing on the side of the road, but if you're unlucky enough to be timed to a group running across the road, they may be making enough of their own noise not to hear them.

They work with dogs as well.

Never been up there myself my friend that's totaled 2 bikes up there keeps us informed, I have ridden on the Skyline Drive on motorcycles up into Virginia, absolutely Beautiful up there!

Got on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville, NC and rode the parkway north, it changed to Skyline Drive at the Virginia border, I forgot where we got off in Virginia, but we were going to a motorcycle rally in Washington,DC.

To be on a motorcycle in Washington,DC traffic was one of the most uncomfortable motorcycle riding experiences logged into my memory, it will not ever happen again! :pfff:

You had to go with the flow or get run over, the posted speed limits were a joke, buses and trucks were changing lanes like Ferrari's on a race track, a very bad condition for a motorcyclist, but we made it home! :)

I gave up riding down here because people don't know how to turn or merge lanes. The pill abuse is bad here as well, so I see doped up drivers all the time doing stupid things.

On my truck, I'm debating if I want to put my cow pusher plow on the front. It'll handle the deer situation and put me a step ahead for the zombie apocalypse. :D

Mounting a cow pusher, Interesting!, wonder how that would look on a Honda Civic!

If I can possibly keep a straight face, I'm going to have some fun with my wife tonight! :)

So Riser, You're into the zombie apocalypse eh, Walking Dead and all that good stuff, Did you see World War Z?

World War Z was a f'ing horrible movie and full of stupid crap. The bits of the book I read were so much better.

For example, the zombies climbing the wall. What really happens is that over the course of years, the zombie bodies start piling up outside the wall and eventually turns into a ramp. Too many zombies pile up.. they don't start climbing and crawling up over each other like that.

In the winter months, the zombies freeze and they live relatively peaceful with anticipation towards the spring thaw when the zombies start coming back.

I repeat, the Movie was f'ing horrible.

Not to mention the horrible CGI in the opening with the officer. If you even remotely paid attention to the scene a few seconds earlier, you'd note that the vehicle that was plowing through wasn't anywhere in the background. Furthermore, there wasn't that much room behind them and the road dead ended as T, so the vehicle that plowed through didn't even have the distance to get up to speed. I wasn't even trying to see that, it was just plain obvious.

I'm all for a good movie with some flaws in it.. but c'mon, these were flaws that were horrible and stupid.

And why the hell was he so special? They never really explained anything about him that remotely bothered making him a significant person in the film.

Yeah, in the book it takes course over years and they eventually learn how to deal with the situation. In the movie, I think it takes place over like 3 months or something.. so they skip a lot of stuff, leave a lot of holes, etc. Some areas they filled with action scenes that were pointless when they could have made a better storyline instead.

Don't know how many times you see the scene of the helicopter crashing in the commercial for it.. I mean, really? You're going to fly a helicopter with a big ass gun on it so low to the ground that zombies can jump on it? Come on.. Or other movies with the 50 billion dollar jet has to fly within 100 feet to shoot its gun (thinking Die Hard, 2nd to last, or that Pacific Rim movie).

@ riser

Sorry dude I did not realize there were zombie rules of conduct!

Good Grief! I only saw the movie once, I did not Analyze it, or suggest everyone go see it, so chill!

My reference to the movie W W Z was more of what if zombies didn't just walk, what if they ran for you?

It would make a hoard of them almost impossible to get away from, like the zombies in I am Legend, or worse, The Devils Playground.

World War Z had some pondering considerations especially regarding the rate of turn from non infected to infected, and
their avoidance of diseased people, they were able to sense disease in others even on the run, that was kinda weird IMO?

For the record I don't read books like that!

A movie is just a movie to me, a short source of entertainment, nothing more!

Since you're a movie critic, I'm almost afraid to ask you but, what did you think of the last Star Trek Into Darkness, and the new Superman Man of Steel?

Hey, as you noted, no rules of conduct for zombies. :)  I didn't argue how the zombies were, I was pointing out blatant inconsistencies within the movie. Did you know that WWZ was so bad, they had to shoot the entire 2nd half of the movie AGAIN because who ever made it thought it was horrible? They re-did the entire thing because it would have been a worse flop than what it turned out to be.
If it wasn't some big huge production and had a giant advertisement behind it, I wouldn't care. But they typed to hype it up so much and produced that.. crap.

Now some of the concept, sures.. running away from diseased people, etc. So in that lies the cure. Though, the 12 seconds or whatever to turn.. didn't really add much excitement to the movie. 30 Days whatever it was had a better concept with that.
Zombies running.. its been played out before. Others have done it to spice up the genre and all that.. its all in good fun.

You mentioned I Am Legend. I don't know why they used that name other than to hype the movie up. It didn't match the book.. which again, far better. The CGI zombies.. horrible. In the book, vampires (somehow they used zombies in the movie?) eventually win over. The reason it is called "I Am Legend" is that the last surviving human, who was the main hunter of zombies, is dying. His last thoughts are that is a legend to the new humanity of the vampire world.. humans are dead, replaced by vampires. He's the last living, soon to be dead, human.. and thus a legend.

Away from the book, the movie overall was good. I didn't like the CGI used, again, just like what followed in WWZ. Don't put a big name actor up on screen next to CGI up close. Get it right. Overall though, it was a good movie but they screwed it up because they were relying on people to know about the book to put some pieces together.

Well WWZ did flop at the box office, I didn't actually pay to see it on DVD either.

How about, The Devils Playground, I don't see you mention it, did you see that one?

What movies do you class as good, that you watch more than once? Any movies?

November 1, 2013 7:10:35 AM

I'll watch most things once. I can't say anything is better than the next in a zombie realm. I did like 2 of George Romero's movies.. Day of the Dead and something else. One followed a group of a college students. The movie starts off with them making a zombie movie for college (pretty accurate right? hah) As the movie goes on, they progress through a series of events.. in one case they come across a small bad ass group of military soldiers... thinking they would get help, but they get nothing but robbed from them. And that scene is over. It progressed through and you see how everything goes from there.
His next movie, you're following a group of military soldiers who are having their own troubles with zombies. After zombies get the better of the soldiers, they're pissed and only looking to save their own butts. They come across a group of college kids.
He made the 2 movies criss-cross at that point. You get to see from both perspectives.. the college kids with their initial hope of being saved, and the soldiers only worrying about saving themselves after getting beat up badly.

I really thought that made the movie good. Now, you had the college kid doing stupid things, but the soldiers being smart, and you can see how each still get screwed over by their choices they make after humanity falls.

Can't think of the names.. they're low budget movies not really out there for anything except entertainment. No big names, etc.

Bruce Campbell. Enough said. :D

I haven't seen or heard of the Devil's Playground?

I liked I am Legend, though when he had to kill his Shepherd when she started to turn made me cry. I wish they had shown more of the background of the story. I did get they were vampires and not zombies; the whole stay out of the sunlight thing.

Movies I like to see more than once.

Tarentino flicks (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Dusk till Dawn, Jackie Brown)
The Big Lebowski
The Big Red One
Jaws (never gets old)
The Boondock Saints
The Usual Suspects

Dozens of others, but you get the idea.

Look to Omega Man for more of the backstory.

Two days ago I just barely missed hitting a buck running across the road in the middle of the day, it is extremely unusual for them to be running in the middle of the day!

A friend dropped by yesterday he is a hunter and hunts the land I live on, he and his friends have bagged 8 bucks so far this season, and that has barely scratched the problem of what's running around.

I'll be glad when mating season is over this year!
