I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question. I searched the forum and couldn't find a similar thread. My current setup is as follows:

Mobo: Asrock Z77 Pro3
CPU: i5 2500K
Video Card: XFX Radeon 6870
HD: Samsung 840 SSD
Monitor: LG W2252TQ (1680x1050)

Currently I am able to run Battlefield 4 on medium settings and get between 70-80 fps. I am considering running it on a 50" Samsung 1080p plasma from 2009. Would the 6870 struggle due to the larger screen size? I've never used anything other than a traditional lcd monitor with my pc so I'm not sure how screen size affects the strain on a video card. Any insight would be appreciated.

EDIT: I apologize if this should have been in the video games section. Wasn't sure exactly where to put it

Since you are going from 1680x1050 to 1920x1080 I would expect lower frame rates, but you might as well hook it up and try it out -- all it will cost is some time. You may want to color balance your Samsung first if you never did though -- you can usually find good settings at either CNET or TweakTV.

The size of th screen doesnt have any effect at all. A 27 inch screen at 1680x1050 would run EXACTLY the same as a 50 inch screen at 1680x050. The difference is in the resolution. In this case you're jumping up to 1080p from a lower resolution so you will see a frame rate drop compared to your current monitor. If the frame rate drop is too much you can either lower the resolution, or dial back your settings some more.

Thanks for the replies. I will try it out and see how it goes. If it isn't to my liking, maybe I will buy myself an early Christmas present in the form of a Radeon 7970. And RealBeast, I used CNET's settings a while back to color balance my TV, thanks.

You are good to go, so spend a couple hours (or less) moving things around and attach the TV, you may be surprised at the awesomeness of of big screen for gaming. It's raining where I am so it would be no time lost from the "honey-do" list. :)
