Query on EVGA PSU Recommendation

Hi,

EVGA recommends a minimum 400w PSU with a minimum of 24amps on the 12v rail for the Gtx 550 ti here (http://www.evga.com/products/pdf/02G-P3-1559.pdf). Now for Gtx 650 ti Boost here (http://www.evga.com/products/pdf/01G-P4-3655.pdf), it recommends a minimum 450w PSU with a minimum of 24amps on the 12v rail.

So my understanding is that both cards will require a minimum of 288 watts (24*12) on the 12v rail as per the specs. So why does EVGA recommend a 400w PSU for one & 450w for the other? What I'm basically trying to get at is shouldn't the same PSU work for both?

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply.

I was actually looking at buying a used Gtx 550 ti off ebay. After looking at the PSU requirements I decided that my PSU (a FSP Saga II 400w) was good enough.

But while looking for other GPU options, I was tempted by the 650 ti Boost. I had thought that my PSU would prove to be a limitation, but after having looked at the PSU requirements, I'm confused as to why the same PSU can't work for both cards if they both require 24amps on the 12v rail. Am I missing something here?

Thanks for your time.

Alright, thanks for that. I guess EVGA just threw in that number to distinguish it from the regular 650 ti.

Just look good psu. There is like Cooler Master 750w and it do only work 450w safe.
