cant decide which cpu to get?

I'm upgrading my computer and I'm looking for the most powerful CPU i can get, I need fast 3D rendering times. I'll be getting a dual CPU motherboard 2011 socket, unless there's a better option?

my question is..

Is the Intel Core i7 Extreme 4960X ivybridge CPU more powerfull than the more expensive ntel Core i7-3970X Extreme Edition Sandy Bridge-E?

thanks for the reply. I think Xeons are too expensive but its an option. do you know if AMD can offer any kind of set up like this?

AMD has their 16 core opterons but they're not on par with the xeons

Don't waste your money on an extreme edition CPU either. A 4930k will do just fine for nearly half the cost of a 4960x
