How to transfer pictures from Samsung 3G model SGH-A197 to computer?

This is the first time I've tried to transfer birthday pictures to my computer and I need help! I have a USB cord that connects from phone to computer.

Connect the phone to the computer with the USB cable, and see if it recognizes the phone as a USB device.
If so, navigate to the phone DCIM folder and copy your pictures to the computer.

If that doesn't work:
Download the drivers from Samsung, and install them.
You need to put the phone in "download" mode, then connect the USB cable to the phone and computer.
Everything will be taken care of for you.

I had a Samsung but I hated their software.

Fortunately, my photos and videos went onto a removable micro-sd card and, since I have an adapter, I was able to remove the card from the phone, put it into the adapter and insert it directly into my computer where it appeared as a new drive.

I was then able to drag and drop the data to where I wanted to store the data.
