Two different graphics cards in one machine

I know that sli/crossfire requires you to have the same graphics card but i was wondering whether it is possible to put something like a 7970 and a 7770 into one machine and have the 7970 to work on its own for my first monitor and to have the 7770 to work on its own for my second monitor. I thought i saw something like that in a video on youtube but i may have been mistaken.

It's quite possible, and fairly easy from Win 7 onwards.
Depending on the monitors it may be simpler to connect both through the HD7970 though.

its just cause i like to watch streams on my second monitor whilst playing games and wondered whether that would affect my gaming performance so i was going to just get a cheap graphics card if it would work for my second monitor
