Does anyone else find it the figures strange for the cards tested in this review?

"Clearly there’s something wrong when the derivative card straight from AMD ends up on top of the just-purchased flagships. So who’s to say that retail 290s won’t follow suit, and when we start buying those cards, they prove to underperform GeForce GTX 780?"

like amd stated something is very off. There's no way AMD would drop the ball so hard after so much hype for the cards. Could be a retailer problem or some accident during transport.

Another thing that seemed weird was how the R9 290X keeps throttling itself and the R9 290 wasn't, so the two cards had minimal performance difference.

that could just be a premium/99% performance aka a lot of extra money for the best it can offer

meaning that the 290 was the base and deduced a price of 400$ was good at what it offers and then made some changes for the 290x to push it to its max and added a premium for it since it is the best (single gpu) card amd has currently. Even so its nothing compared to what nvidia charges for their premiums.
