Hello all,

I been thinking about building a new rig for the past 2 months. As I just saw the new 780 ti specs, my brain is kinda exploding with all the possible combinations of parts.

I want my new Rig to last quite a while as with my last 3 I built. I was thinking of a Corsair / Asus theme as those 2 companies I had great experience with, but if you can suggest some other components I'll look to see what I can get here. Here is what I have so far:

CPU: i7 4820k
Cooler: Not sure what I need
Motherboard: ASUS X79-DELUXE
Case: Obsidian 750D
RAM: 16gb 4x4 quad Corsair Dominator Platinum (1866mhz) (ivy bridge E supports Quad?)
Storage: WD black 1TB
SSD: Corsair Force GS 240gb (should I pick something else?)
GPU: 1x GTX 780 (Its been priced drop but I was thinking 2 GTX 770 4gb in SLI?)
Power Supply: Corsair AX 860 (I have a older AX850 I think on another comp and really sure how to pick out a Power Supply)

So I putted the comments into the part lists, hope its not that hard to read. Right now my budget is $2400 or less. Ofcourse less is better with same performance, as this will be my new main computer, I would use it to play games, video edit as I like to record alot with my camcorder. All suggestions are helpful please :)

Thanks for the suggestion. :)

I have a Haswell build as well, but I didn't consider the Asus Maximus VI Hero, because it didn't come with any wifi. Would the Z87-DELUXE be a better substitute or is there something in the ROG line that is worth getting?

And the GTX 780TI it just came out, so is that a reference design? I can't see a pic in the link ;o

Is there any particular reason that you moved towards the 2011 platform do you do anything professionally intense? If not a Z87 Platform may be more beneficial and cost effective for you. I know you listed video edit but how serious are you with it?

I wouldn't spend more then 150 dollars on a motherboard quite honestly at this point. Most of the items that you'd normally see controlled through the motherboard are currently being taken care of via the CPU. If you need wifi and one of the cheaper ASUS boards provides it then go for it.

Yea the 780 Ti is reference, and will be only reference until December. The Maximus VI Formula is a great board, and comes with Wifi.

Well I was looking at intels website it says the 4770k supports only 1600mhz of DDR3 memory with dual channel, while the 4820k supports 1866mhz with quad channel. So since I was thinking of getting 16GB of RAM i would go quad channel with the 4820k. ATM both processors are the same price or the 4820k is like $10 cheaper where I live.

Otherwise I don't really know much of the difference between the 2 and as for video editing, I usually only edit videos that I take for family moments. I spend quite a bit of money on camcorders trying to get the best picture.

Yes I was looking at the Formula, but its about $30 more expensive then the Deluxe. If I'm not mistaken is the ROG series more for overclocking or does it offer something more then the ASUS gold boards?

I tend to just build my computers and use them without upgrading much. If I do upgrade it may be something like a Video card or replace broken parts.

In terms of gaming I know that memory performance is pretty negligible. The reason you would go with a 2011 chip like the one you have their is because the memory limit is normally a bit higher. And 2011 chips aren't really aimed towards gamers as much as they are aimed towards professionals.

Well I'm using this computer for vitually everything that I would ever need to throw at it. So I guess thats why I picked the 4820k as one of my builds.

So in the long run you think I should go with a 4770k over a 4820k? and the build that megusta404 posted, he put 2133 mhz ram at 16gb. Wouldn't the haswell not be able to use it all? I'm kinda confuse on that subject.

^ would this build be better then megusta? and can anyone give me an opinion on whether maybe I should instead go for 2 gtx 770's at 2gb in SLI? Reason for me considering that is, they are pretty cheap but since they are in SLI the 2gb vram may not last me very long into the future? Or maybe I should put off the build till I see some reference coolers for 780TI and 290x?

Well it comes down to a few things. Firstly if you overclock it'll be very hard for you to retain the higher ram speeds you'll have to dial those back. Secondly, I forgot the other big deal with 2011 is you get the full speed 16x slots PCI-E Slots. And although the prices are similar in terms of the cpu pricing the motherboard pricing most certainly is not. You could get a good Z87 board for 150-160 tops where as with 2011 the baseline motherboards start at around 200 dollars.
And honestly with the price cut to the 780 your best bet would be to set yourself up with 1x 780 and see if that is enough for you. Because with 2x 770's it may be a bit of overkill at 1080P if you are running at that resolution that is and on a single screen like most.
Your pc part picker list doesn't have anything its just the url for their homepage sir/miss.

O dear my bad, I didn't copy the right link.

^ I didn't include and OS because I can get windows 8 professional copy very cheap.

I didn't think it was worth mentioning but I recently purchased a LG 27" IPS WQHD LED monitor, think the resolution is 2560 x 1440. I may use a dual monitor setup like with my current PC which already has 2 27inch monitors, forgot the resolutions on them tho.

I'm going to have to visit the store I plan to purchase my stuff from too see what motherboards they have, but looking at there site. Z87 - deluxe runs around $280, and a X79 deluxe at NEWGG is $277 (store didn't list it online). So far I only tried to look at comparable or similar names items hence I picked the deluxe. I know ASUS has other x79 motherboards but so far on the website I only see the Asus P9X79 which is already $250 and I honestly reading and comparing all these motherboards gets me confuse with all the terms. So when I saw that the P9X series didn't have 802.11ac I just went with the X79 deluxe.

You listed the resolution their ha! 1440P yea you are fine with a single GTX780. If you aren't spanning the screens in an extension of one another you are fine.

You can find motherboards for far cheaper even from ASUS find a 120-160 dollar motherboard from them if you like them. And then purchase a WiFi usb adapter to fit your needs.

Also to note if you are spending over 200 dollars on a board from ASUS you should be dipping into ROG territory whether its the hero or the gene-v something along those lines.
for example

plus usb 802.11ac
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
puts you around 160 dollars total just as an example
