I need some help choosing between these. I just built a new system and my original card, the Toxic R9 280X, worked well for 2 days and died. It was a bit loud under load though so I am exploring other options.

I use a single monitor set up at 1920x1200 resolution. I do not know if a 3GB or 2GB card makes a difference based on that.

Anyway, right now I am split between getting the ASUS R9 280X CU Top II (3GB card) for $315 or the MSI Lightning GTX 770 (2GB card) for appx $360.

My biggest decision points involve wanting a low noise card with good performance and solid build quality. I do not plan on running 2 cards.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Both cards perform about same good, although i would NEVER buy an MSI product (again) since their Quality Control S*CKS (proven).

It all depends on wether you like AMD or Nvidia. The R9 280X is a rebadged card BUT the GTX 770 is also one, so the rebadging happens on both sides. (some people don't realize that)

I got a R9 280X Vapor-X because it is purely a little cheaper than a 770 while having the same performance and the 280x can be OC'd better.

Another benefit of the AMD card is that it has 3GB of onboard memor compared to 2GB. This may bottleneck you in some future titles and some current titles like Battlefield 4.

So in the end, its all up to you and which company you prefer.
