According to Google (that which can allegedly do no wrong) there was one starting in Gillingham in 2002 but no trace of a follow-up. I fear you are off to Southampton at the very nearest. There's a couple of regular Fairs in London if you're ever up that way - one six days a week in Bayswater and the other some Saturdays at one of the University buildings in Bloomsbury.

Sadly, fairs of yesteryear seem to have died the death - pity really, they were a good source of information and cheap goods.

Maybe Southampton wasn't such a good idea. Depending on where you are in Dorset, I searched Taunton, Exeter, and Bridgwater but the nearest i could find is in Bristol. You need to make a considerable saving to make that trip. Most hardware can be bought quite safely online - I buy a lot of parts from my PC fixing business from tried and trusted sites at e-Bay as well as at the two London fairs.

Also, Novatech in Portsmouth ship the same day and have some good bargains, particularly in the barebopnes section at http:/www.novatech.co.uk.

That is a shame, was hoping to take along my parents as they need convincing that building my own pc is a good idea! Thanks for your help and good luck with your business

You can tell them from me it's all down to the sheer pleasure and sense of achievement when you turn it on for the first third time and it works perfectly. You can also say that the year after you built your first one, you can be self-employed fixing other folks' PCs and building for them and carry on doing that for ten years.

I know - I was that man and I'm 67!

Oh and it also saves money.
