Hello everyone,

Like the thread title says, I'd like to know which would perform better:
a) a single R9 270X
b) GTX 550Ti in SLI

I think I should mention that I'm asking this in context of buying a new PC (i5 4570, 8GB 2133 Mhz RAM, Gigabyte Z87-HD3 m/b). I'm using a 1600x900 monitor and would like to play games at highest possible settings (excluding AA) at minimum 45 FPS (I'm certain it's possible in most games on both of these cards).

I've already researched a little in this matter but since there is more than 2 year release date difference between them, they are kind of hard to compare.

Thanks in advance for your answers and time.

PS: Also, I know that buying a single new card now and adding another one later is better than buying old card in SLI right now but I'm interested mainly in pure performance, not "future proofing".

The R9 270x is faster than those two cards combined, maybe by around 20 percent. It also has a big advantage being a single card rather than having to deal with the problem there are with SLI and crossfire.

probably the 270x. For your resolution you will be able to max out most games with that card. 550ti is a bit old, and was never that good in the first place. would certainly be a vram issue if they are only 1gb cards, with most recent games using more than 1gb vram, they will take a huge performance hit.

270x will crush a PAIR of 550 ti's, let alone one. No brainer here on the 270x...........really seems like an odd pair of graphics card to be considering........whats the scoop? Someone trying to pawn off a 550 ti on you? LOL!
