From Linux Mint back to Windows

Hello, I have an HP mini 2140 and Linux Mint installed on it, causing starting problems to my device, so I would like to know how to come back to the original OS windows, probably XP. And how can I installed a free windows 7? Thanks in advance

If it came preinstalled with windows you should be able to get a restore disc from the manufacturer, if the laptop has a windows key sticker on it you might be able to download the disc images from Microsoft and reinstall the operating system.

Windows 7 isn't FREE.

If I understood, I have to download the OS before formatting my disk. The original one, XP.
Where can I find it? And can I have it on an external disk or I really need to have it on a USB?

Your best bet is to contact HP for the restore disc, then use a tool to transfer the disc to a USB stick, here's more info from a another tomsharware article:
