SanDisk SSD 64GB & Sata 2/ACHI

Hi,

I recently bought a SanDisk SSD 64GB it is advertised UP TO 490 MB/s read & 240 MB/s write. It is installed in ACHI mode and I benchmarked it with HDTune Pro. I am getting 205 MB/s read which is well below the 300 MB/s SATA 2 speed. I believed I would get close to the SATA 2 speed of 300 MB/s. I have done a couple of runs with HD Tune not getting any faster just a consistent 205 MB/s. I'm stumped?

For reference my Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD gives me 165 MB/s in HDTune. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

PC
Radeon HD 7950 Sapphire Vapor-X, Core i-760@3.6GHz, Crucial Ballistix Xtreme DDR3 PC3-12800 8GB, Asus P7H55/USB3, Enermax NAXN 650W PSU, Enermax ETS-T40-TB heatsink & fan, Fractal Design Define R4 and Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS.

Thanks
Haider

Yes but SATA2 supports 300 MB/s. I'm getting 205MB/s which roughly 66% percent of the SATA 2 speed. I thought that since the drive can do upto 490MB/s then I should be able to get closer to 300 MB/s limit of the SATA 2 standard.

SATA 2 only reached 300MB/s by theory and, at a high, we can count on 275MB/s. HDTune is a TERRIBLE program for what you are doing; use ATTO. I would still be surprised if you reached much higher, depending on the controller inside the SSD. Also, tweaking improves performance considerably, so system does play a factor.

Damn that's why I have always hated USB, just hot air figures. Firewire 1 and 2 run rings around it. Thanks God I have my Audigy 2 ZS. Thunderbolt one for the next build...
