Hi guys

I have just purchased

P9x79 Pro Mobo
I7 3930K Processor

Plus everything else I need to build a machine primarily for Video Editing but also gaming and music production. But I cannot decide on a video card, I just keep getting conflicting advice.

I think I have narrowed it down to
GTX 680
GTX 770 (which I believe is basically a rebranded 680??)
Radeon R9 290

I will be using Adobe products, Premiere Pro and After Effect, plus Magic Bullet. I have also heard the argument of Cuda vs Open CL which again, makes choosing a little difficult.

I have spent quite a lot of cash on the rest of the kit so want to keep price to a minimum if i can. Any help would be much appreciated. Maybe up to around £300 or $500. I guess I could also dd another card at a later date if one wasn't performing too well.

Thanks guys

Ok, well no feedback on this one. Not to worry.

For those interested I opted for a Gigabyte GTX 770 4GB Windforce.

After reading hundreds of reviews and comparisons this card seems to be the best option for me and also gives me the opportunity to go SLi in the future.

Hmm, I didn't even see this. Well, if you've already chosen the GTX 770, it's your money...

Thanks for the response Avro

I guess you would go for the AMD but you didn't give reasons why.

The reasons I chose the GTX 770

I know somebody who uses the GTX 680 for the same purposes as I will be doing and he has great results with it. As the 770 is basically the same card rebranded it seemed a no brainer to me.

I will only be working in 1080p resolution at max with one monitor.

From what I read the AMD card is noisy and runs very hot.

There are no custom cooled AMD models available at the moment and I need a card sooner rather than later

Reading pro video editing forums all the resident experts said the Nvidia card is much better for Adobe products.

The AMD card is aimed at gamers and although I will be doing some gaming that is not my priority.

I am sure you will have your reasons for choosing the AMD card and I am almost sure it runs games much better but that isn't that important to me.

I would however be interested to hear why you would choose the AMD over the Nvidia.

The reasons don't matter if you've already bought it. If you haven't, it's simple. nVidia thins its GPU computation functions on its GeForce cards to improve gaming performance. If you check any review that has GPU compute benchmarks, you'll find the Radeons blowing the GeForce cards out of the water across the board. Pro video editors don't use GeForce cards, they use Quadro cards.

Well, you seem to have your mind made up. I don't know where you got your ideas but I'm really to tired to try to change your mind. Enjoy your GTX 770.
