Hey all,

I am a freelance digital artist and I am planning to build a high-end workstation.

My usage would be: Video Editing (Premiere CC), Coloring (DaVinci Resolve), Compositing (After Effects, Nuke) and 3D Generalism (Maya, C4D etc.).

I am stuck in between i7 4930k and dual e5-2630v2. Link to comparison here:ark.intel.com/compare

So my question is: For my usage should I go for more cores or clock speed? They say that xeons offer more processing power but would I suffer too much from significantly decreased clock speed?

If you are able to help and give insight that would be great!

The dual Xeons would be considerably better, but they're also considerably more expensive too. Can you afford to spend an extra $700-800 on a dual cpu setup? I'm not sure it's worth the extra cost.

I would go with the faster clock speed (4930k) as not all your cores would be utilized efficiently.

It's too bad you can't use dual E3 Xeons...

Thank you for your replies. I decided to go for 4930k because it will meet my needs at this time.

You'll love the 4930k. It's hardly a consolidation prize.
